Presentation: Race-Conscious Affirmative Action Presented by Dowling College Date: October 14, 2008 Time: 2:30pm - 3:30pm
Affirmative action has come to be one of the most controversial issues of the last forty years. This presentation will focus on Supreme Court rulings that pertain primarily to race-conscious affirmative action. The consideration of race as it relates to employment decisions, admission to graduate and professional schools, and the awarding of governmental contracts, to name a few, has lead to a great deal of confusion and misunderstanding about what affirmative action was meant to accomplish. Mischaracterization of Supreme Court rulings by public officials often has lead to further mystification.
